How to solve a cryptogram:

Examine the encrypted quote in the box above. Look for clues in patterns and punctuation. Place the letter you would like to change in the first box, then the letter you would like to change it to in the second box. Once this is done, press the "Swap" button. Re-examine the puzzle and continue swapping letters until you can reveal each word and ultimately the entire quote! When you solve the full puzzle (including the quoted person's name) you will be alerted of your win.

Important Rules to follow:

DO NOT type in the large textbox where the quote is found. Use the smaller swap-boxes below the encrypted quote. You must only put one letter at a time in each box. You should only use lower case letters in solving the cryptogram; upper case will not work. If you use upper case letters, more than one letter in a box, or any type of symbols it will alter the puzzle and put you even further away from finishing the cryptogram. There are four hints available for each cryptogram. Use them if you get stuck, but try to solve them puzzles using as few hints as possible.

Tips for solving a Cryptogram:

If you think you know what one word is, try swapping the letters to finish that word and in the process, if your guess is correct, you will reveal other words or parts of them which will help you in solving the puzzle. Take notice of patterns in spelling and clues in punctuation. Shorter words are easier to guess at and you should probably start there. Frequent letter combinations (th, sh, wh), common word endings (ing, er, ly), contractions (can't, won't, you're), and double letters in words all provide great clues and places for you to begin the puzzle.

Once you get to the point where you feel comfortable and confident, then start challenging yourself further by using a stopwatch. I usually feel pretty good if I can completely solve a puzzle in less than eight minutes.
