Kirk, this is Garland Briley. Jane said you were doing some family research on the Anders family. You and I both have the Anders name traced black to John Anders, born 1797, in Mecklenberg Co, VA. He must have moved to the western part of NC because one of his sons was David Ashbul who is in our line.

I am familiar with a John Anders born 1797 VA whose third wife is Mary. I did not have a surname for the wife. I am aware of ten children of his by three different wives. In 1870 Transylvania Co. NC is John Anders 73 born VA, Mary 35 born SC, Lindie 3 and Porter 10. By his first wife I have children John and David Asbury. By his second wife, I have Pink, Jane, Martha, Ben, and William. I have one other child by Mary, Katie who married a Mr. DeLong. Does any of this match your John and Mary? I am a descendant from Laura Ann Anders, daughter of ____ and Martha (Redmon) Anders. Her husband may have been John but no further information. Betty Kuykendall Price

It's strange how things come together but I was playing around with research on James Robert Thompson of Henderson Co. NC who married Jane Walker who died in 1858 in Henderson Co. NC Following messages, especially by Gayle of SC, I followed on into the Walker Family. Following the different messages about the Walker family of Pendleton District SC, it took me to this Wyatt family forum and that where I want to put together several pieces of puzzle for your interigation. I'm taking about the John Anders born 1788 based on the 1850 Buncombe Co. NC census or born 1797 based on the 1870 Transylvania Co. NC census. Both men born Virginia per the census. His wife's name is Sarah on the 1850 census who I understand is Sarah "Sally" Bennett born 1805 per the 1850 census or 1800 on the 1860 census of Buncombe Co. She was born in SC per the census. The John of the 1850/1860 census was later identified as John "Jackie" Anders and that his first wife was Mary Wyatt born 1790 SC who died young and was buried on Whittemore Branch. From the 1850/1860 census were listed ten children all born in SC. To that list of children were added the James Alfred Anders born 1815 Mecklenburg Co. Virginia who married Charlotte Lockey. Also Vinie b. 1818 married Levi DeWeese and John G. born 1828. Since Mary died before 1828, the John G. born 1828 is very well the son of the second wife Sarah. On the 1860 Buncombe Co. NC census, the wife Sarah is living with daughters Hester Ann who was 13 in the 1850 census but 20 in the 1860 census who married a Clark and Martha E. who was 8 in the 1850 census but 17 in the 1860 census. I do not know what became of Sarah. She would have been considered the second wife of John Anders. Where was John? And then there is the John born 1797 VA and third wife Mary born 1835 SC per the 1870 Transylvania Co. NC with two children Lindie (Lindsey?) b. 1867 married a Chandler and Porter (Peter?) b. 1865. Said to have been by his first wife, is John and David Ashbury Anders born 1822 married Temperance Bishop. Also said to have been one of the sons by the second wife Pinkney Anders born 1834 wife Artie. This Mary has been identified as Mary Walker of Pendleton District SC per the posting on the Anders GenForum by Gayle of SC (see message No. 528) Her posting adds to what is known that Mary Walker Anders born ca 1834 SC married John Anders and moved to NC where John drowned in a fishing accident. And from message No. 278 by Gayle of SC, Mary moved back to SC . It's quite evident that now we have the three wives of John Anders born in Virginia First Mary Wyatt born 1790 SC died 1828 Buncombe Co NC Second Sarah "Sally" Bennett born 1800/5SC died after 1860 where? Third Mary Walker born 1835 SC died after 1870 SC Now, let's all put together the 21 children of our John Anders and let's see if we can build from there. Anybody want to start? Somewhere in this conglamoration is my great grandfather who married Martha Redmon born 1846. By her husband (given name not confirmed) Anders she was conceived of two daughters, Margaret "Polly" (1872-1904) who married 26 Dec 1902 Henderson Co. NC to Rollo J. Kuykendall b. 1869 SC and my grandmother, Laura Ann Anders (born 1875 Buncombe Co. NC d 1958 Gaston Co. NC) married 1892 Buncombe Co. NC Robert Hossack Kuykendall (1871 SC-1938 Gaston Co. NC) Laura and Robert are buried in Tryon, Polk Co. NC. Robert and Rollo Kuykendall are brothers. Martha Redmon Anders's husband died between the birth of Laura 1875 and the 1880 Buncombe Co. NC census where Martha is found with her two daughters and her second husband Jonathan "John" Ledford born 1858. Her daughter Margaret used the surname "Ledford" on her marriage license. In my grandmother's Bible on the page for Marriages, she records her marriage. One of the witnesses was Job Anders who I understand is the son of James Blythe Anders as Job Franklin Anders (1874-1962) of Buncombe Co. wife Mary Brown. James Blythe Anders is the son of James Alfred and Charlotte (Lockie) Anders. But there is a Franklin Anders age 3 on the 1850 Buncombe Co. census with John "Jackie" Anders and wife Sarh. My grandmother did not give any information about the Job Anders in her Bible. My Aunt told me Job was her sister. That turned out to be incorrect as best as I can figure. If there is a Job Franklin Anders, what about the Franklin Anders b. 1843? Is he also a Job Franklin Anders? My Aunt also told me that my great grandfather's name was John Anders but I have not been able to confirm it. Let's start putting the family together. Could he have been the John G. Anders born 1828 on whom there is no further information? However, he would have been older than Martha Redmon born 1846. There may be another generation in there. Betty Kuykendall Price
